Northmoor Church

St. Denys Church, Northmoor

St Denys’ church, Northmoor

Open during the daytime, St Denys provides a spiritual space for people to reflect and pray. We have a variety of services here from a BCP Matins or occasionally a family service on the first Sunday in the month, to a traditional full choral Eucharist according to the Book of Common Prayer on the fourth Sunday in the month. On the second Sunday in the month we meet together as part of the Lower Windrush Benefice of Northmoor, Standlake, Stanton Harcourt and Yelford. On the third Sunday in the month we also have an informal communion service.

St Denys Parish Church is a Grade 1 Listed Building, constructed of rough limestone blocks and surrounded by its own well-tended churchyard in the centre of Northmoor village. The village with its outlying hamlets of Moreton and Bablockhythe sits in a long loop of the river Thames below its confluence with the river Windrush. This is still essentially an agricultural landscape of arable, pasture and meadow. It is a small cruciform church dating from the early 14th century, with a 15th century west tower. The communion rail is late 17th century, said to have come from St. John’s College chapel. St. John’s still retains the patronage.

Thanks to church members Billy and Gill McNeil who shared some of their photos of the church.  More can be found in the Gallery.
